Video surveillance
Protect the cameras against unauthorised access
A site often has many surveillance cameras. They are installed in places that are easy to reach. Many have software that is rarely updated. Often all the cameras share the same login.
The situation
Why cameras are a recurring problem
Weak passwords
Many cameras still have the password set at the factory. Such passwords can often be found on the internet.
Many identical cameras
If a camera model has a vulnerability, every camera of that model has it.
Easy to reach
The camera is outdoors or in a public area. The network socket behind it can be reached.
Sensitive material
Images and video from cameras are often personal data. So the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies.
How XoT helps
The camera responds only to those who are authorised
With Hide and Protect, the camera responds only to traffic from the recording system or from authorised operators. The Lock stops everything else.
The camera's weak password remains. But someone without authorisation cannot reach the camera over the network.
Data protection
Images from cameras are personal data
Under the GDPR, personal data must be protected with technical measures. Limiting who can reach the cameras is one such measure. With Remote Access, the log shows who connected, when and for how long.
We are not lawyers and do not give legal advice. But we can describe exactly what XoT does. The person responsible for data protection can use that description as a basis for their work.
